You Can Sensitive and Equally Offensive…

About everything.  No, seriously.  People that are overly sensitive and cry about everything annoy me.  They’re too afraid to be honest and try to pacify every situation they encounter.  People that are overly crude and do nothing to show compassion also annoy me.  They find amusement in ridiculing and insulting others for the sake of spreading negativity.  But people who have the right mixture of both (like myself) are an absolute freaking godsend.

It takes a certain level of uniqueness to be able to see the value in everything, understand the humane aspect of it, and point out the flaws while maintaining a certain level of appreciation.  For example, I understand the seriousness of domestic abuse; I am sensitive to the trauma men and women face in controlling relationships, but I still think Rihanna’s a dumb clown ass for making a song with abusive ex-boyfriend Chris Brown (my opinion).  And while I am a former Ethnic Studies major who has spent hours devoting myself to the sociological studies of racism and ethnicity, I am still going to drop a fried chicken and Kool-Aid joke regarding African Americans and say “Oh, she’s Asian” whenever my friends and I drive by a crazy driver who doesn’t know what the fuck she’s doing.  Does that make me a racist?  No.  Am I being rude and insensitive?  Yes.  Do I really hold these values and openly discriminate against others?  No.  That’s where the difference lies.  People still support gay rights but throw around the phrase, “That’s so gay” (which is stupid because how can a grapefruit have a sexual orientation?), and as much as it irritates me to admit it, just because someone says that does not make him or her homophobic.

Think of a comedian you really like.  Why do you like him or her?  Why do we reserve comedians to say and express the things we are too afraid to say out loud for ourselves?  Is it possible to care about something and still make fun of it?  Yes - you do it to your friends every day.  Why should AIDS, terrorism, domestic abuse, racism, and teen pregnancy be any different?  We insult things or make fun of them because that is how we cope; that is how we come to understand them and start conversations with each other.  Seriously, check out my Facebook, I can’t say two fucking words before people get all offended and start a war on my status update.  You know what I say?  They are too sensitive.  Stop being afraid to say what you really think.  You’re not a heartless bastard if you do.

That is all.
